I'm in the process of building my first computer. The first build was put together and when I bread boarded it ran. I than assembled the build in the case and it ran for 5-10 minutes before it shut down. It would then power on for a second before shutting off again. I RMA'd the power supply and still had the same issue. I assumed the problem was the motherboard but couldn't RMA the old one so I went ahead and bought a new one. Now I have the build with the new motherboard bread boarded and it starts up for 2-3 seconds before restarting.
