I have a sony laptop product name VPECH that just quit starting. I push the power button and get the three greeen lights (numbers, caps lock, and the third beside them) for a second and they go off and the computer stays blank. There hasn't been any hard knocks for this laptop and it just started. I have taken out the battery and checked to make sure it clicks back in securely. The orange power light is not on at all, even when the computer is plugged in. Any ideas?
Did you try booting-up without the battery in the laptop? If not, try that. Bad batteries will sometimes prevent the laptop from starting-up, even when plugged into the wall.
Also try it the reverse way, with the battery in the laptop, but no A/C power plugged into the laptop.
If those two things do not work, try reseating the memory in the laptop.
Thanks for the information. I really appreciate the expertise. I tried booting up without the battery, and the reverse. I also reseated the memory boards i nthe laptop. When I attempted to start up the laptop, it was the three green lights for a second and then it turned off. Also, when the computer is plugged in to the wall, I thought there was an orange light on the front edge of the computer (charging, or power light?). And it isn't lighting up.
