Forum General UK & Ireland Discussions : Stupid 3 year extended HP care pack warranty

Word :    Username :

just wondered if anyone else taken out the 3 year extended HP carepack warranty ?.

recently took mine out for my 4 month old hp pavalion slimline pc.
all seemed good, the cost was £74, money i didnt want to spend but it wasnt a huge cost.

the stupid thing was when i got the email link to print off my insurance certificate it said it expires in 2013. that would meen my warranty is only for 2 years and not 3.
i called the customer services and they told me that the 3 year warranty runs from the day of purchace, and not from the day the manufactures warranty runs out.

is it just me or is this a totally stupid warranty idea ?. why would anyone want to pay for a warranty which runs alongside the exsisting manufactures one ?.

if they are going to do this they should clearly state this, or just sell the warranty as 2 years. just glad i caught this before it was to late to cancel.

anyone know any online warranty sites in the uk what are any good ?.

Well, all hp warranties start from the day of purchase of the product, not after the expiration of regular warranty. As for 3rd party warranty, I won't recommend it. I bought 2 year extended from Service net, but then I didn't read very good things about it in forums. Then I bought HP 2 year care pack, which gives me a year of extended warranty. This is the way they work pal. It is irritating, but that's it.

It's worth noting here that anywhere in the European Union, any product with an electrical plug on it has a minimum guarantee of two years. You won't normally find that little known fact in manufacturers' documentation.

Which bit of European Law did they fail to get 100% right, Stig? The manufacturers are in denial but it's set in stone here in the UK. The extended warranties shop staff try to sell are pretty universally regarded as a waste of money over here.

Straight from the DTI .. There is a common misunderstanding that the EU Directive requires a two-year guarantee, this is not true, the two years is for you to make a claim against the manufacturer/supplier, it used to be six years ( five for the jocks ) and this sometimes can be enforced by a judge if it goes to a court case.
