How do you feel about this CPU? It has a great price, but does the raw performance reflect the specs? I am looking for a budget AM3 CPU. Is this my magic pill, or will a Phenom give better results. Thanks in advance for your advice.

It's pretty good.
Is it for gaming? Home office work?

The phenoms are worth it if you are gaming but the athlon IIs are pretty good cpus for general use and productivity use.

It's going to be a budget gaming rig. How much of a "performance vs. price" boost are we looking at with a Phenom compared to the Athlon II? I'm looking for real-world performance, not what AMD says the clock speed is.

the phenoms with the L3 are generally 10% faster with the same clock as the athlons. This is more apparent as clock speed increases.

Thanks for the feedback, but what does that 10% mean for actual performance? Example: Will that 10% give a few extra FPS in a game, or when rendering a video? What I'm asking is (in your opinion) does that 10% performance boost justify the price increase?

Well the link shows the 10% does matter if you check the gaming fps. All depends on what you are willing to pay and your budget I guess.
