Match the motherboard with it's RAM requirement and any CPU that works with the motherboard should be happy.

I did think that SKT 775 boards were DDR2 but i could be wrong

post your motherboard model and we can check to be sure.

Depends on if your board can take it. I have an older core 2 duo system with an e8400 and it takes ddr3 sticks, while my dad has a system that is with a core 2 quad that can only take ddr2.
