I started playing with this idea with my grandmother in mind who can't get out much anymore, she still wants to be able to go out to buy food, birthday / event cards and just genneraly look arround the local shops she used to. Now while most people with basic computer skills can just go online and do this we still have many people who don't have a clue where to even begin. I'd love to put together a mobile system that i could carry arround while another family member could have a second system running at my grans so she could see where i was, tell me where to go, what to look at and what to buy.

Simply carrying arround a laptop with a mobile broadband package would be a bit impractical but with a few additions this could be done fairly simply so what im asking for is some advice on what other components to use.

Webcam: it's going to have to be of pretty good quality and be mounted on the strap of a backpack i'll need to come up with some sort of idea to be able to detach and reatach it to the strap. Orientation would be difficult without a screen for me to see what being streamed down the webcam so i was thinking of the possibility of a small battery powered display that i could wear on my wist/forearm i've seen several screens arround 4" in size that "should" work fine for this afterall i dont need to opperate the system from this screen i only need to roughly see what is being streamed.

Headset: I'd need to be able to hear and speak back but it need to be something i can wear close to my mouth so as to pick up as much of my voice as possible and leave out as much background noise as possible at the same time.

The laptop/netbook would not need to be all that powerful, in fact i'd be wanting more battery life than anything else. Keeping it cool should not be a problem as ive already put together a backpack with two small fans built into either side to provide enough airflow.

A mobile broadband privider, Given i'm in the UK i'd very much like to hear other peoples opinions on what providers you have used, how solid as the connection been and what kind of speeds you generaly get as we all know that all providers boast about what service they offor is often very different from the service you get.

I've got more to add but i don't want to make the post to long and would very much like to see what anyone else has to say.

Thanks for reading all
