My proposed build so far includes:

Zalman Z9 Plus, i5 2500k, Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3-B3, OCZ Petrol 128gb SSD, 8gb LP Vengeance RAM, HD 6870.

What wattage is recommended for overclocking with this build?
and what are some good options that wont cost a fortune?

Im using www.scan.co.uk because im from the UK. Are there any on there you would recommend? and is 600w enough for a HD 6870 and a decent overclock?

Will take a look at Scan...550-600W in a good PSU is sufficient.

dont really have a set budget, but im looking to save money on it as much as i can.

Basically I just need a PSU that can take the graphics card and a decent overclock with that system. Maybe just a decent (preferably modular) 80 Plus Bronze one which will do the job and not make too much noise

From personal experience, Scan.co.uk are a very good quality store with brilliant customer service, however there prices tend to be a little high.

Personally I would reccomend the following:

Free delivery, I am currently using the 750watt version, it is a 80+ silver rated power supply, single rail and very customisable with plenty of cables with it.

PS it also looks rather nice :-)

Noticed after I posted this that Uther 39 recomended a similar PSU (high 5)

This one looks promising, although is it modular? and I see it isnt listed as a 'silent fan' whilst others are. Is it likely to be more noisy?

The fan might not be listed as Silent but it is by no means noisy, your case fans will cause more noise than this.

Okay great, it looks like you have both recommended the same one.

Its 50w more and is the same price as the modular version of the XFX, but if you think the XFX is better than ill go with it. Also, do you think modular will be an important feature?

Dont get coolermaster its loud and poor quality i had one of those and i just bought a new corsair gs800 because the old coolermaster WAS VERY LOUD.

If its noisy, cant you complain and return it, considering it's meant to be a 'silent' fan?

£80+ for a non-modular PSU is a little out of my budget :-/ plus i wouldnt need 800w.

Are there any that you would recommend?

Or some cheaper alternatives, the thermaltake one here is very good as is the Be Quiet, they are all modular.

I like the sound of either of the XFX or the ThermalTake. Some people have slated ThermalTake PSUs, do you know if they are decent or not? All the specs on this one seem very impressive (89% efficiency!)

Do you think its worth spending the extra £8 on the XFX?

In all honesty, alot of people will just say to get any of the above.
From a personal opinion the XFX PSU has very good reviews, looks nice, performs well and it will last a good while, it is a single rail giving a good output.

The design is rather nice aswell and doesnt just look like a stand square box.
I cant say I have ever heard my psu fan over any of my other fans in my pc, varying from an asus dcuii 6950 on 10% fan speed to 200mm fans on the 600t.

XFX from reviews is a sure thing :-)

Anyone wanting to comment on my proposed build, it will be greatly appreciated. Tell me what you think of it or any improvements within a similar budget.

"Up to 89%" and its depends on the conditions if you overclock your system the it wont be reach 89% again
But have the same 80+ bronse certificate not 80+ gold or platinum..

Based on that 3, i would suggest you to choose options number 2..
Because that stuff offer you Big Fan to keep your system run silent and give you a huge single rail among the other..
