Can you mix a 4gb ram stick with a 2gb ram stick?

Hi there,

I have a very nice system I have been upgrading for a little while and was looking to add some more ram. I managed to buy a Kingston DDR3 2gb stick of ram for quite cheap online. I was wondering if I can mix a 2gb ram stick with a 4gb ram sick in the same motherboard? Would it cause any problems to my system? Is it wise to have matching ram sticks of the same make and memory?

it'll work to the lowest common demoninator, you may get dual channel up to the lowest limit. or stick on seperate channels to be sure. i'm running 2x1GB and 2x2GB ddr2.
