I added a couple things to my computer (+2gb ram bringing it to 8gb and a gfx card). i think my crappy PSU might be kind of strapped for power. How can I check how much it is actually using?

Remember to accout for the PSU efficiency. You will be measuring power into the PSU, not power out of the PSU. Multiply your power reading by the PSU efficiency to calculate the power used by your system.
