Hi

Its a financial decision...there is a HUGE difference in price between those 2 cpus , particularly when you take into account the motherboard that matches the cpu...

the chipset for i7-990 is not going to be continued. look at intel cpu's that are chipset 1155 or maybe 2011 if you want.

Get an i7-3960x or 3930k.

The i7 990X is EOL as it has been replaced by the new i7 3xxx line of CPUs on socket 2011.

However, just like the old i7 line on socket 1366 they are expensive compared to the mainstream CPUs on socket 1155, where the i7 2600 would do well for you, it beats the AMD CPU in all but a few highly threaded tasks. (comparison to i7 3960k)

Here is an article on FX-8150 in which you can see that the mainstream i7 2600 is superior.
