PSU overheating/fan not working

Forum CPU & Components : Power Supplies, Cases & Mods PSU overheating/fan not working

Word :    Username :

I've run into a sort of problem.

I've just recently moved into a new apartment. Before this my rig was running fine running all the current games for
hours on end without any overheating problems. I decided to open up my case and clean all the excess dust because of
the new move and whatnot.

Now everytime I play a video game, my PSU is super hot to the touch and it turns off. And for some reason that I seem
unable to troubleshoot myself, the fan isn't working like it did back in the old apartment a week ago. Did I do something
wrong or disconnected something on accident? All the other fans work and my computer runs perfect until I start indulging in some video games. Then it just overheats (and it can't be my CPU cause i've checked the temperatures) and shuts down abruptly.

If anyone could shed light to this situation i'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Perf

Fans die and it sounds like the fan in your PSU has taken the old dirt nap. How old is the PSU? What is the make/model? Is it under warranty?

Some here could probably provide guidance on how to replace the PSU fan if you want to attempt that....

its an Ultra 600W ATX power supply model no. ULT-LS600P.

I was afraid that it might be the PSU going down the drain, but I just wanted to make sure through here.

Would it be cheaper to try to replace the fan by itself? Or is it easier to just purchase a new power unit?

You'll be doing yourself a huge favour by replacing that unit.
