I got a Dell Optiplex GX270 with windows Xp service pack 3 with 512MB ram. My processor is a IntelR PentiumR 4CPU 2.40GHZ . I want to know if my computer is running on quad-core but I dont know how to find out will someone help me? P.S i already looked at other topics but they didnt help me
The Intel® Pentium® 4 processors are all single core processors that may have hyper-threading (so they may be able to run two threads). The easiest way to see how many threads a computer is running is to bring up the task manager and go to the Performance tab and you will see a little window for each thread that can be run.

When I look on there there is only 1 thread that appears how can that be?
How can it not be? i clicked on run and typed dxdiag and it said on system information processor: IntelR PentiumR 4CPU 2.40GHZ
Your system information is referring to your CPU being in the "Pentium 4" family of CPUs. The chip is called "Pentium 4" and it only has a single processing core.

Use your commen sense, the pentium 4 is what 7 years old? Quad cores have only become widely used in the last 3-4 years, Now do you really think the pent 4 is going to have 4 cores, It is by todays standard a terrible processor and i highly recommend you get a new one
