Why is the benchmark test so different? Only 200 MHZ difference (So 800 MHZ all together) but the cache on one is only 3, and the other is 6. Reason I'm asking is the laptop I -want- to buy has http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.ph [...] 40+2.40GHz Where-as the other laptop has http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.ph [...] 40+2.20GHz The first one has a higher speed, but less cache. Something I'm missing, orrr?
Because the i7 is hyper threaded to 8 cores and is a quad core, while the i5 is a dual core hyper threaded to 4 cores.
So in terms of gaming (MMOs mainly). I'm thinking the 560M with the i5 > 540M with the i7.... But man, am I sad about such a weak processor... But a weaker video card would be even more depressing...
Well most games won't use more than 2-4 cores heavily anyway, so there shouldn't be too much difference. Especially since it's clocked higher.
Hi Nobody buys a laptop for gaming...you buy or build a gaming PC... All the best Brett
Also you shouldn't trust passmark. It is a synthetic benchmark. In terms of frequency, the i7 has a turbo boost up to 2.9ghz.

I agree, but clearly he has some interest in gaming on this laptop or he wouldn't be so worried about the GPU.
If he doesn't intend on gaming then the i7 is the obvious choice.
If this is a 3rd party battery, issues like this are pretty much to be expected. If it's...
