Yes i know that benchmarks shows that i5 2500 outperforms FX-6100..
But what im building is a File Server Build which is gonna be used as a Monitoring server for all employees also and some Graphic Editing, in short i will be multitasking on this build.
Im quite sided with the i5 2500..
But does more cores will be good? The file server will serve 53 Clients
Im persuading my boss to increase the budget for the server but im on a $700 limited budget.
I would think it possible on a high thread count that the FX 6100 may be marginally better but almost non noticable. I would say the 2500 on the efficiency basis.
Pretty much, if you consider the FX 6100 as a tri-core with SMT then it is interesting as the i5 is a pure quad core, I would take the i5 on the basis of efficiency basis. Core to core scaling and IPC is just way better.

So yeah i5-2500 or FX-6100.
not the FX-6100. the FX-6100 is the worse performing Bulldozer chip out there. I honestly do not recommend and Bulldozer chip but if your even thinking about the AMD and FX in this case, please get the FX-8120 instead. me personally would also take the 1100T over the FX-6100.
now with all that being said, Intel is better. even the older (LGA 1156 with i7-870 is still better than ANY FX-Bulldozer)..
I don't believe either is a very good option for a file server, really. And when you use a file server for graphic editing, it's not really a file server, anymore.
I'd be looking more toward a motherboard which addresses your current, and possibly future, connectivity needs. Any 'S' Intel chip or an 'E' AMD 45w should work just dandy with it.

Don't even bother with the Bulldozer it's just not worth it. Like everyone said in single threaded programs the I5 will be better. In multi threaded programs the Bulldozer might be better but that's not definite. Even if it is it probably won't be a huge difference. Just go with I5.
