Those psu's are bad...also I would get a p67 or z68 board for the 1st build. How much are you willing to spend for cooling?

Definitely P67/Z68 for the first build. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813128498

That second build is intense. Note that neither needs a case that expensive, and you should choose your case by stylistic preference. If you like the look of the Trooper, stick with it.

I'd drop to a 1tb HDD and get a 256gb SSD on the second, and also get a 1tb on the first build and add a 120gb SSD. They really make a difference.

PSUs, assuming you're going to upgrade to two non-580 GPUs on the first build:
first: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817207016
second: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817341045

The first system will be fine with a $35 Hyper 212 EVO, or a $50 Mugen 3 if you feel like spending more. The second should probably be the Mugen.
212 EVO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835103099
Mugen 3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835185168

There's nothing on that list that competes with the Mugen at its price.

the best overall air cooler is probably the noctua nh-d14. it looses to the thermalright silver arrow but only by a degree or two. the noctua has the best ram compatibility though as the silver arrow only accepts low profile ram.

Tell your bro, that the dx79si isn't that good of a board compared to other x79 boards.

Have you ever considered custom liquid cooling? An xspc rasa rx120/240/360 would be good for beginning water cooling. It will fit very snug in each one of your choices and look very nice.
