Hello,

I need help regarding knowing if a certain CPU can be used on my motherboard.

This is the CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 960T Processor, Black Edition, 3.0 4 Socket AM3 - 95W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819103995
http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Phenom-P [...] 244&sr=8-1

And this is the motherboard: Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2P (rev.1.0)
http://www.giga-byte.co.za/Product [...] M61PME-S2P

I ask because I don't want to upgrade my mobo now, only the processor as a friend of mine is travelling to the US and it would be a nice budget upgrade.

The compatibility list on my mobo's website shows nothing of this 960T version, only about the 955 and tne 965. There is no information regarding the 960T 95W CPU.

This is an extract from their compatibility chart. The last value is availability of support by the GA-M61PME-S2P (rev.1.0) mobo to each of these processors. This is the webpage address with the full chart:
http://www.giga-byte.co.za/Support [...] uctID=3009

AMD Phenom II X6 1035T 2600MHz 512KBx6 6MB Thuban 45nm E0 95W 4000 N/A
AMD Phenom II X4 970 3500MHz 512KBx4 6MB Deneb 45nm C3 125W 4000 N/A
AMD Phenom II X4 965 3400MHz 512KBx4 6MB Deneb 45nm C3 125W 4000 N/A
AMD Phenom II X4 955 3200MHz 512KBx4 6MB Deneb 45nm C3 125W 4000 N/A
AMD Phenom II X4 955 3200MHz 512KBx4 6MB Deneb 45nm C3 95W 4000 F6
AMD Phenom II X4 945 3000MHz 512KBx4 6MB Deneb 45nm C3 95W 4000 F5

The reason I think the Phenom II X4 960T is compatible is that they put the 955 - 95W as compatible and the 955 - 125W as not compatible, not available for the motherboard.

Since this 960T operates on 95W, I think it could very possibly work. The CPUs after the 955 - 95W are all either 125W or of a different type, like the X6 1035T. So I was thinking that since 960T is almost 955 and they are both 95W.... that I could just update the BIOS and use it on my motherboard.

What do you guys think? I'm buying it because if it doesn't work for me, I can still sell it for the price I paid here in Brasil, but would still like to know oppinions of more experient dudes and possible solutions and stuff.

Thanks a lot, cheers,
André

It should work; you may flash the bios with your old cpu if needed.
