Strange bug?

Hey there, Excellent Forums!

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate on a M1530 Dell Laptop with a Sigmtels sound card.
Heres my issue
I noticed that the bass level is incredibly low when playing from my laptop but when I plug it into some other audio source like my blackberry, or a old Sony vio laptop the bass is excellent, and roars.

It seems to me that windows 7 wont let me switch down to 2.1 and therefore its playing audio to all these different types of speakers which I don't even have...

I've tried countless times switching it to stereo and it says it has been switched but when I go to properties and check the balance levels there are sliders for speakers that I don't have since I'm using only 2.1

I hope this makes sense.

stereo would be 2 speakers choose your speaker setup in windows ie:2.1
verify that your new laptop has speakers capable of producing low bass
