The gold units are super quite. I would go with the Capstone were I you. I have one and love it.

I have always gone corsair, And love them. But seasonic is a great brand too. (the higher end corsairs are seasonics on the inside anyway) Just DONT go cheap on your psu. You want over/under voltage protection and all that jazz. plus the cheap units do not deliver there advertised wattage.

What makes a psu noisy is a fan that needs to spin up to high rpm's to keep the unit cool.

If you insist on absolute silence, you are looking at a fanless unit which will be expensive, and will not work well if the case is not well ventilated, and using at least some sort of fans for ventilation. You will probably not find a quality fanless 500w unit.

Gold/silver/platinum units are more efficient, so their fans do not need to work so hard.
Unfortunately such a psu will cost north of $100 for a quality brand.
Something like this Antec platinum rated 550w unit for $110:

Instead, I suggest you buy a psu that is a fair amount stronger than the 500w you need.
It will then operate in the more efficient middle third of it's range, and not require the fan to spin up for cooling.
Perhaps something like this Antec earthwatts green 650w:

In case anyone is having any doubts about the quality of the Capstone series:

The 450W version is based on this unit:

if ur not fussed about warrenty. Buy any psu and i will cut a hole in it remove the stock fan and insert a silent fan. inbox me if ur interested.

That sounds like an exceeding bad idea. If he/she was going to go through all that trouble and expense they could just get a fanless unit.

you could always go for a slightly bigger unit as its likely has more efficient cooling than a lower wattage unit... my 850w is silent (and i do mean silent) in comparison to my bro in-laws 550w (his being whisper quiet) then again mine is better quality as well. dont forget, if you can shop local, the guys behind the counter will give advice. just dont shop at currys or pc world...
i recently installed a coolermaster 550w gx and it is impressively quiet... then again the case its in has 2 80mm noise makers...
