I have the Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium. I am wondering if I should have any program from creative running in the background in order to get the best improvement from this piece of hardaware?

I don't know why you would need to. On mine, I just set the Creative Audio Control Panel the way I want it, and it keeps those settings after I close the CACP.
