Adding Windows Desktop to VLAN breaks network connectivity

Forum CPU & Components : NICs Adding Windows Desktop to VLAN breaks network connectivity

I have two new servers running VMware connected to a SAN, these devices are on a separate VLAN from the rest of the network. I'm trying to run a website from one of the VM's and it's taking a long time to talk to my Oracle server, which lives on the default VLAN with the rest of the network. I'm trying to add a windows desktop to the second VLAN and confirm it will not break anything before I move my Oracle server to the VLAN to see if that will help the Oracle access times.

Whenever I add my windows desktop to the second VLAN it loses all network connectivity, even with the VM's that exist on the same VLAN. If it helps I'm using a DELL PowerConnect 6248 switch and there's a 3com switch between the PowerConnect and my windows desktop.

I'm assuming that I'm missing some obvious piece of information, please help.
