Hello,
I am about to move from my current 4 year old desktop to 2 new machines. The configurations of these are as follows:
Machine1:
Core i5 2500
Asus H67 P8H67-M PRO
G.Skill Ripjaws - Memory - 8 GB : 2 x 4 GB - DIMM 240-pin - DDR3 - 1333 MHz
2 TB WD SATA western digital Caviar Green
Cooler Master Elite 370
Corsair CMPSU-600GS Gaming Series Power Supply SMPS 600W
Samsung 22X DVDRW Desktop Internal DVD Burner



Machine2:
Core i7 2600
Asus Z68 P8Z68-V PRO
G.Skill Ripjaws - Memory - 8 GB : 2 x 4 GB - DIMM 240-pin - DDR3 - 1333 MHz
Seagate 1TB Barracuda 7200.12 SATA 3Gb/s
Cooler Master Elite 430
Corsair CMPSU-600GS Gaming Series Power Supply SMPS 600W


Machine 1 will be the new primary desktop for heavy duty development work and the second one will be used as whitebox for my vmware study.
Can some one please have a quick look and point out any flaws in the chosen components.
P.S. I will NOT overclock and don’t want to buy a graphics card.

Everything looks good.

 

My only suggestion would be to go with 1600MHz RAM, as it seems to be the sweet spot for Sandy Bridge processors, and you are only looking at around a $5 difference.

 

Also, for the i5 setup, a small(ish) SSD, maybe 120GB to install the OS and commonly used programs on to, will give you a huge performance boost. But that's just an idea.

Thanks itzdanielp for the quick response. as per my research both the mother boards will only go upto 1333 Mhz. Have i missed something?

Oh geez, I just looked at the chipset not the actual page.

The i7 MB you have chosen supports stock speeds to 1600MHz and OC speeds to 2200MHz so that one is fine.


As for the i5 I apparently haven't had enough coffee this morning, because I thought it was P67 not H67. >_< Why don't you use the same MB for both builds, and therefore get the better ram options?

Thanks for the pointer and I did make a mistake there by not choosing the 1600 MHz RAM for i7.

About H67 vs P67, I am saving money at 2 places:
1.) Don't need a GPU with the H67
2.) Won't OC ever so dont need that P67.

Please correct me if any of these assumptions is incorrect. Thanks for the help:).

Yes, you are correct. Which is why I suggest the Z68 (same MB for both) for the i5 build as well.

But you are correct, you do not need the P67. I just somehow read P67 in your original post, I blame it on lack of coffee.

I know the Z68 is a little more expensive, but if you can afford it, I would go with it.
