Forum CPU & Components : NICs Is this a good idea? (Wi-Fi)

I am building a new PC, and it will need to connect to the internet wirelessly. My room is one floor above the router and across the hall. My laptop (a 2006 Centrino Duo) makes the connection well enough (ususlly 1-2 bars). I'm thinking of getting a cheap Rosewill wi-fi card from newegg and using a cantenna to boost the reception. Would that work or should I shell out the cash for a fancier card? (note: I'm on a VERY tight budget)

Hi.

Why not only buy a high gain antenna and try with that?

Aside from just purchasing a high gain antenna I believe you'll be fine. If your laptop picks it up, so should your desktop. My advice get a usb wifi receiver and put it in a wok dish :D
