In f2 I change the date and time and click enter but it never puts the clock right. I thought the time would automaticly change when I put in the date but it deosnt change I have to put it in myself. I am sick of changing the clock every time I want to use my computer. Can any nice person out the help . Thanks Pam

Hello Pam.

There is a coin cell battery on the motherboard, inside of the pc.
In anycase that battery is flat, and why everytime you turn on your pc you have to put the correct time in.
The battery powers the computers RTC/ Real Time Clock on the motherboard, that is part of the bios.
And it also keeps the current setting set in the bios when the pc is turned off.

In any case its what you need, and the problem will go away once you buy a new battery and swap the old one out for the new.

Hi Thank you so much for answering. Is it possible that this happened because I had a new printer instaled at the same time this happened ?. Also I left the printer software in and only found it later. My computer had the eject ticked but it hadent worked. Thank Pam

Highly unlikely. It tends to happen more often with computers that are not left plugged in or which have been in storage for some time. As shaun o says replacing it should solve the problem. If you are in any doubt what to do then find a friendly IT person / teenager with a bit of knowledge, it's not hard as the battery usually has a little holder but you need to know what you are looking for. It's going to look a lot like this:

Hi, Could you tell me if I will be able to do this f1 f2 configaration after putting the battery in. Which ones will I have to change ? Thanks Pam

You only get prompted to do the settings if the system has no values set (ie. battery flat so memory is cleared.) as you are removing the battery this will clear the values held and you will be prompted to enter new ones the first time you turn on after changing the battery.

The battery used varies slightly between different systems but are very easy to find at most department stores. Best bet is to remove the old one then buy one that matches, you can take the old one with you to the shop to check.
