Most people will say that 4GB is plenty and that you really don't need more then that. However, I constantly use over 4GB of ram myself while gaming so for me the jump up to 8GB was much needed.
Example: I just upgraded from 4GB to 8GB when I got BF3 and Crysis2 (again), and I noticed a big difference in loading time. However, I do use triple monitors, and leave one or two applications open when I'm playing, so that uses quite a bit of my RAM.
I'm trying to get a feel if more out there seem to think so because having 8GB use to be future-proofing. I feel no longer. You.?

With RAM at it's prices in the current market there's no reason not to get atleast 16GB if the CPU and board support it... and yes, on a day to day basis I'm using well over 8GB of RAM so 4GB being a foundation is past tense. 8GB++ should be anyone's requisite to building a new system.
In summation you're not alone in feeling that even 8GB is not future proofing.

it is nuts. the ram is so cheap that it makes you want to go crazy and buy 32gb....as far as all that ram being addressed is another story. i saw some shellshocker deal the other day, was like corsair 8gb kit for $19.99.

with 4GB of RAM on my SLi triple monitor set-up games like Crysis2 and BF3 wouldn't run.
less than a minute after the game loads it would crash and I'd get low memory warnings.
now with the full 8GB, I game like a champ...
extreme graphics and all even though that has to do with VRAM and not main RAM.
