I have a M4A79XTD EVO motherboard and have downloaded the compatibility list for RAM, and I have to say I am not real happy with what look to be my choices. I currently have 4gb of fairly slow ram installed and wanted to get a 8gb kit *2 sticks of 4gb* 1600 speed.
I know from experience that the compatibility list isn't a be all end all list of what would work, but I was hoping maybe some people on the forums here may have had or know someone that has an old EVO that are running 8gb of ram on it and if they have any issues.
I would really rather not have to get a new motherboard just to be able to install 8gb of ram just because the compatibility list says only a max of 6gb.
Dual Channel memory architecture
*AMD AM3 100 and 200 series CPU support up to DDR3 1066MHz
**Due to OS limitation, when installing total memory of 4GB capacity or more, Windows® 32-bit operation system may only recognize less than 3GB. Hence, a total installed memory of less than 3GB is recommended.
***Refer to www.asus.com for the memory QVL (Qualified Vendors Lists).
Both are perfect fit : )

I have (had) that exact motherboard, I ran 16GB of Gskill Ripjaws 1600MHz with absolutely zero issues. Just make sure you update your BIOS before the install.
Basically trying to get a performance boost for under $200. The cpu is pretty much still good and i have an SSD so the only weak point would be my video card and ram.
Oh, and yes i have win7 64bit.

for the compatibility list, *its late and not thinking the best* I was thinking what it listed were the max it could take, not what kits it was compatible with, so kinda DUH on my part.

still though, those 2 aren't on the list.
It just means, that the RAM maker decided not to have it tested, so they don't have to pay any certification fees : ) The RAM is a industry standard and it will work fine.
