Hello,

I have the original Dell XPS 410 Mobo at the moment and I'm seriously looking to upgrade it but i have no clue where to start.

I have the Q6700 quad core intel processor @2.66ghz
Nvidia GTX 560 ti graphics card

Currently running windows 7 professional 64 bit.

Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated!

First you have to decide what you want to do , an upgrade ? a new build ? if an upgrade what do you want to upgrade and how much do you want to spend. Are you keepeng the cpu and gpu and psu and ram? What do you have for ram , power supply and hdd?
The cpu that you have is a LGA 775 socket motherboard and there are fewer and fewer of those available , so you could be looinkng at a cpu ,MB and ram upgrade.

Intel Core i5-2320 Sandy Bridge 3.0GHz (3.3GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2000 BX80623I52320

CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B
$49.99

ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
$121.99

This is an example of what I was talking about with a cpu , ram and MB upgrade and this would cost $361.97.

If you wanted to just upgrade the motherboard then you could do that and keep the cpu and the ram and just change out the MB. So it comes down to what do you want to do and how much do you want to spend.

As inzone mentions, the LGA 775 is an "older" CPU slot. Unless you're going to replace the mobo for "stuff's broken" purposes, you might be better off just saving up your money and making a new build, using a MOBO with a currently manufactured socket, possibly even a mobo with a socket that can take your current CPU and later on put a different one in (don't know my Intel sockets that well, but that's why I bought my Sabertooth 990FX mobo)

Unlike AND Intel changes their sockets with almost every new cpu release , so having the Lga 775 socket cpu he either has to get a motherboard with that socket or get one with the Lga 1155 socket but if he does then he also has to get a new cpu to match.

In that case, it would be a question of how much longer whatever CPU you have currently will be viable. If it's a very good processor, then maybe sticking with a 775 socket mobo can be done: however, if you can see yourself wanting to replace the CPU in 2-3 years, then it's probably better to just go for a full mobo/cpu upgrade.

Lga socket 775 is being phased out and there is a very small selection of both motherboards and cpu's , each motherboard manufacturer has only one or two selections of motherboards so in this case an upgrade is needed and it will be up to the OP if he wants to go that route.
