I have a ASRock z68 Extreme 3 Rev 3 motherboard with a Hyper 212+ HSF in a Push/Pull config.
The mobo has CPU_Fan1 power connector that is 4 pin.
It has CPU_Fan2 power connector that is 3 pin.
Why is the CPU_Fan2 connector not 4 pin?
Do i need the PWM function on the 2nd fan?
Will they run at the exactly the same speed to avoid turbulence?
The fans are identical in every aspect.

Just trying to educate myself here.

You could get this splitter and plug both fans into the cpu_fan1 socket on the MB.

I am assuming that I don't need to worry about the motor startup frying that circuit on the motherboard by using a splitter? I wonder what the logic is behind CPU_FAN2 only being 3 pin?

The logic could be that the cpu_fan2 connector is linked to the cpu_fan1? So that if both connectors were occupied then the motherboard would treat the two as one and they would both speed up or slow down together.

Then I don't need a splitter I would just plug the 4 pin connector into the 3 pin CPU_Fan2 slot.

What you could do is plug the two fan connectors into those two cpu_fan ports and see how it works and if needed then you could go with the splitter. If the bios actually workd that way and controls those two fan ports then you would be all set. Not every board has two fan ports like that generally they just have the one.
