Hello,

I have a Intel Pentium D 820 and was wondering if I can install it on a newer MOBO which uses DDR3 Memory. My MOBO only supports DDR2 4 ghz and would love to get DDR3 8ghz.

Not sure of the 4ghz or the 8ghz thing, but the processor should work in any socket 775 motherboard.

Unless you are increasing the amount of ram from say 4gb to 8gb, you will not notice any significant difference between DDR2 and DDR3.

The Pentium D comes from the DDR2 days. I don't think you'll find a MB that supports the Pent. D and DDR3.

I'm really looking to see if the ddr3 will work with my CPU and a new MOBO??? Or does the Pentium D 820 only work with DDR2? I would love to use DDR3 with my chipset if possible.

Thanks for the help...

The Intel web site is not specific on this point so it would probably not be worth the chance. Typically it is best to give up on such old technology as any attempt at upgrade would be throwing good money after bad.
