Hi, new poster here. I'm preparing to do a new build to be used primarily as an audio DAW. Can anyone confirm or deny compatibility of this motherboard/memory combo:

ASUS P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131791

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory Model CMP32GX3M4X1600C10
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820233229

The Corsair configurator doesn't mention this or any other 4 x 8GB sticks for this mobo. However, Asus specs indicate that this board can max out at 32GB of memory, and Corsair product info indicates that this memory is compatible with Z68 platform.

Can anyone confirm compatibility? If not, has anyone used this memory on a different Z68 mobo?

Secondarily, can anyone comment on the relative performance compared to this 16GB memory (which is my second choice):

CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9B
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820145347

Performance is important to me too, but given that the latencies of these two parts are close, I imagine that the difference in overall system performance between these would be negligable.

Lastly, I know some may question the need for 32GB. I'd like to initially leave this valid question aside for the moment and simply understand if 32GB is an option with this mobo.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Both choices are perfect match.

But, if u are using large CPU cooler, high profile RAM is not the way to go here.

Make sure u have Win7 Pro or higher.

Thanks for the reply nikorr. Indeed I'll be using Win7/64 Ultimate.

What is the concern with a large CPU cooler? Is there potential for physical interference? I was planning to use the following Noctua cooler:

Noctua NH-U9B SE2 92mm SSO CPU Cooler

Thanks for pointing out this potential issue, and the additional memory suggestion. Maybe I am too focused on the numbers, but I was hoping to use DDR3-1600. This seems to be what many audio DAW builders are using.

Reading through comments about the Noctua cooler on Newegg, it seems at least some are using it with just a single fan.

Any thoughts? And thanks again for your help!

OK, are u going to be running it hard, OC'd over4.5GHz .

It still going to be fine, your temp will be 51°C instead of 48°C.

Not big deal to me.

I would 'undress' 1 RAM stick to fit it under : ), like on one of those pictures : ) and use both fans!

Ya, that sounds like a good option. I suspect that I'll have more than enough performance and won't need to push it too hard for that reason. I do like to tinker though, so I might dial it up a bit for a modest OC.

I thought that is why people get one of the best ever made coolers - to squeeze the CPU to the max : )
