in my asus essentio cm1730-03 under the product page it lets me download a bios up to 601 then when i look up the actual board i get to 801 what would happen if i flashed to that?

The 801 bios file works with your board: http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/A [...] #download. But if your board is running well, I wouldn't flash the bios. You may lose some bios adjustments that are current. Sometimes asus may grey out a bios adjustment (make it non accessable) with a bios update.

Like o1die says: only flash a BIOS to fix an actual problem. never flash just to have the latest & greatest...
