Hi, I have been building up a new computer with a i7 2600k and bought originally a MSI Z68A-GD80 gen 3 model. It put out great specs and I did a rate and performance check with windows and I received on processor 7.5. Now soon after installation there was a high pitched noise coming from the mobo and I asked for replacement. It was approved and instead of getting the same board I realized it has tons more features than I originally would ever want or need so I bought the MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3) from amazon.

It was installed however when I went to do a rate and performance check it reads a 5.5 now and the other mobo was 7.5. What gives?

So my question to you all is how does either board differ in performance when their data is so similar. Am I missing something really obvious. And should I stick with the GD80?

One other piece of information that might be of some use is that I replaced Gskill 2133mhz 2x4gb for Corsair 1600mhz 2x8gb

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Hi there,

Get GD65,

The GD65 overclocks just fine with 2600K at 4.6GHz .

The GD80 is better for OC>

Thanks for the feedback.
So weird thing though. I haven't OC'd either and the Gd80 worked better at stock does anyone know why?

You are talking about two different motherboaed models and if you had done the RMA and recieved the same model and had the different WEI then I would say that somethings up but when you get a different model , there must be different settings for the cpu. Plus you changed the ram also and while there is a seperate WEI score for the memory because you went to a lower speed ram it lowered the cpu WEI. If you were to put the other ram in we could see if it made the WEI on the cpu go back up.

oooo thank you! I think I know what it is. I bought the corsair 1600 and it runs at 800mhz on default I think. While the Gskill PC3-17000 that I had ran at 2133mhz. 800-2133 is a huge jump right? I mean I played like dirt3 and similar games on norm with first installation of ram and board and didn't have any problems, but when I put in the 1600 ram and the GD65 it runs those games choppy.

Why did you replace the 2133mhz ram?

It was 2x4gb and I didn't see the point if its not 2x8gb when I have a 32gb total.

One other thing I don't understand is that in my MSI control center I can see it says speed: DDR3 1600 (800MHz). Is this false advertising from where I bought it, it does not say it would be low 800MHz. I would expect 1333MHz but not 800MHz.

You know what guys I figured out what this is all about. So I bought this from amazon and it came in a corsair box Vengeance on the front but I think its been messed with. It shows only that is ddr3 16gb, no paperwork inside or anything on the box saying the speed data or anything. I'm returning and going to get the g.skill on newegg or something else. Fraudulent.
