[Solved] AMD Support timeline for DDR4 / PCIE3

I know Intel is starting support for PCI-E 3 and I imagine they will be first in to have support for DDR4.

Does anyone know the timeline that AMD has to start offering chipsets that support DDR4 / PCIE-3? I could not find anything on the web (but maybe I searched the wrong way)

I'm not getting a new PC for awhile but I would still like to plan a general timeframe. I prefer to get AMD but I would like it to be supporting the latest standards in hope that I can upgrade it over time (of course if AMD chips are lagging behind Intel as horribly as they do now I will probably get intel).

For now PCIE 3.0 is not a big improvement is more marketing. The diference between PCIE 2.0 and PCIE 3.0 in performance is insignificant.
DDR4 ? You have to wait. And when will hit the market will have verry big prices. If you want an upgrade buy a good AM3+ mobo 990FX if you can and a good AMD cpu and DDR3.

I know PCIE 3 is not an improvement over PCIE2 right now. I also understand DDR4 will have big prices. I am not looking to upgrade my machine now but in 18 month or maybe longer. I am trying to understand what will be supported then. I want to keep my next MB and set up for as long as possible which means I would prefer PCIE3 since it will probably better support graphics cards in 2016. As an example my current board was PCIE1 and if I had been more up on news I would have gone with PCIE2. Based on benchmarks I have seen PCIE1 in a single card is not limiting in many cases)

So my question is still out there...does anyone have an idea when some of PCIE3 and DDR4 might be supported. I found an article somewhere that made it sound like DDR4 was not coming out until 2014 now (if that's true then I'll obviously be going with DDR3).

DDR4 apparently isn't supposed to be introduced until 2014 or so. DDR4 changes the memory topology a lot and won't be as seamless as the DDR -> DDR2 or especially the DDR2 -> DDR3 transition. AMD is usually a bit behind Intel in jumping on the absolute latest-technology RAM bandwagon as well, unless there is some really good reason to do so (such as AMD using first-gen DDR before Intel.) I'd not expect any AMD chips that use DDR4 for a few years.

PCIe 3.0 could theoretically come to AMD platforms with the next generation of APUs, since the APUs have on-die PCIe controllers and Socket FM1 just passes the PCIe lanes through to the board. The boards' traces and such would need to be able to handle the increased PCIe 3.0 signaling speeds but otherwise I see no reason this could not be done. The remaining AMD platforms would need to be replaced to support PCIe since the sockets don't support on-die PCIe controllers and the chipsets don't support PCIe 3.0. Apparently AMD will get one more CPU revision (Piledriver) out of existing non-APU platforms, so the parts after Piledriver when new sockets are needed will likely be where PCIe 3.0 shows up.
