Forum Motherboards & Memory : Memory Both sticks not recognized

So one problem leads to another.

I used to run Corsair Vengence 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 Ram. That is until one stick went bad. I have since went and bought a replacement stick of Corsair Vengence 4GB(1x4GB) to run with the remaining good stick.

After installing, my system doesnt recognize both sticks in the 1 and 3 slots of my MSI Z68A-GD55(G3). It only sees the one plugged in to slot 1. If I switch the stick to 2 and 4 it finds them both but gives an error.

Suggestions?

I'm no pro, but is it possible the slot went bad and not the RAM? If you checked that, I'm not sure.

I would tend to agree that the slot is bad. Did you test the old RAM in 2 and 4 before you tossed it? Might have been good, or when it burned up, it burnt your slot it was in.

You can try just one good stick in slot 1, try to boot, then slot 3, try to boot and then you'd know for sure which slot was toast...

Unfortunately it looks like I have two problems.

Bad stick of RAM
Bad slot

Inserted good RAM into slot 3 and rebooted, RAM fault (3 beeps)

At least now you know and can run on slot 2 and 4 or replace the mobo...

If 2 and 4 work fine, is there any reason to RMA the board? I have no intentions of running 4 sticks of RAM.
