Forum Motherboards & Memory : Memory Memory issue / question

Word :    Username :

I bought 4 sticks of 4GB Corsair DDR3 Vengence memory, and I believe one stick is bad. Upon boot up, the PC would just shut down before starting Windows. My Mobo is a FX 990 Sabertooth AM3+, and it has little LED's that let me know there's a problem. Well, I removed two sticks and it booted and loaded Windows, but only showed 4 GB of RAM instead of 8.

I went to AMD's overdrive program, and it showed that the #1 slot wasn't registering any Ram in it. I replaced the stick that wasn't showing with another stick, and it now shows 8 GB's of RAM.

First question......does that prove one stick is bad?

Second question.....can I run 3 sticks of RAM instead of 2 or 4?

Sometimes u need to increase the voltage by .10V, when u are using all 4 slots.

Can u post the link to the RAM?

The best way to pinpoint that stick as the problem would be to boot with it alone installed. Might as well do this with all your sticks, one at a time. Run Prime95's Blend test for a couple of minutes on each one if it boots.

Nice avatar, incidentally.

I'm almost afraid to mess with the ram now, as Windows Experience Index has it at a 7.7 right now. It was at 7.5 before. I guess I can live with just 8 GB of Ram lol.

Question unanswered.....Can I run 3 sticks of this in an FX 990 AMD Sabertooth Mobo?

Oh, and thanks for the avatar compliment kajabla. I made it blink with MGI 4.
