so i recently bought a new HP ProBook 4530s

which came with 8gb ram and it had windows 7 32bit operating.

but when i checked how much ram it had, it came up with: 8.00 GB (2.69 usable)

i also tried installing the windows 7 professional 64bit CD which came with it, but it does not work..

why is this happening??

You need to install a 64 bit operating system in order for the computer to use all 8GB of RAM.

Until you do that, your computer will only recognise >4GB.

Yes, you MUST install the x64 OS to use over about 3.5gb of RAM. What do you mean when you say that Win 7 x64 "doesn't work?"
