Hi all,
I recently purchased a new set of ram for my motherboard which comes as 6 x 4GB ram sticks.

I'm running a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R 2.0 updated to the latest bios with a 980X CPU.

I've had this system for probably around a year now with literally 0 issues.

The RAM just causes the system to BSOD. When I try the XMP profile it refuses to boot.

If I install half of the ram only it still crashes although much less.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The problem lies in that your ram, from what I can see in the specs, is rated at 1.65 volts, and X58 boards like memory that is rated at 1.5 volts. If you can find a way in the bios to up the voltage to the ram to 1.65 volts, I'd bet the problems go away. Your only other choice would be to replace the ram with 1.5v ram.

ok I just put the ram voltage up to 1.66V however when I run memtest I get dozens of errors (like 50 so far)

Aside from that it seems to be running fine.

Does it also give errors when running at 1,50V? If so, take all but one RAM sticks out and rerun MemTest, see if it gives errors, if not take it out and put another one in etc. check which one(s) give errors.

Well it was just memtest that runs on windows.

I installed memtest86 and ran it from a USB key on boot and I got 0 errors in about 5 minutes of testing.

So I can only assume that memtest (as opposed to memtest86) isn't that great at testing memory.

Windows has now been up a fair amount of time with 0 problems.

So sounds like problem solved.

Not magically, if you read what he did, he bumped the voltage.
