Basically 8/9 screws are in place fine and went in completly flush but one is not alligned properly and for me to screw it in I have to use addtional force. I can get in 2/3 of the way down - is this sufficent enough?

Thanks

I don't want to apply any more force to it incase I damage the board.

You probably have it cross threaded.
Take the board out and replace the stand-off.
Start each screw a couple turns at most. When all screws are started then
gently turn each one just until it makes contact with the board.
Now tighten each one carefully, making sure not to overtighten.
