What causes motherboards to burn up

Our motherboard has burned up three different times and I have no idea why. We do have a surge protector, could it be bad? Thanks for any help.

I would suspect the power supply, but you need to list your system specs to start. One fellow had an old house with plug in fuses that kept popping.

motherboard could be burned due to high temperature of processor and motherboard also. You must check processor temperature and seated again heatsink on processor.
Add cooling fans which through the heat to outside the cpu.

If you have graphics card and additional accessories then you must change your psu at least 600w or 750w.
