Help with NIC please! Anyone have the X7SPA?

Forum Motherboards & Memory : Supermicro Help with NIC please! Anyone have the X7SPA?

I have a X7SPA-HF mobo and a 502L-200B chassis. I cannot figure out if I can use a PCI NIC with this mobo. I am using 2.5" laptop drive and I have the RSC-RR1U-E16 riser card.

Will a NIC work with this mobo and if so, what card is recommended?

The X7SPA-HF already has 2x Intel 82574L Gigabit LAN so why do you need another NIC? The riser is a PCI-E x16 rev 1 so any of the PCI-E x8 -> http://www.supermicro.com/products [...] fm#adapter

I know in theory an adapter is compatible with the X7SPA. However, I do not think it will physically work.

See below:

Supermicro tech says: For X7SPE-HF, it can support one PCIe riser card and put the add-on card on it while X7SPA-HF is able to fit into 1U, but no add-on card support due to chassis limitation in supporting slot7. You can use CSE-RR1U-E8 or RSC-RR1U-E16 for AOC-SG-i4.

I am hoping someone here who has the X7SPA can verify or deny this claim.

CSE-RR1U-E8 - x8 1U PCI-E Riser Card
RSC-RR1U-E16 - x16 1U PCI-E Riser Card
Riser cards -> http://www.supermicro.com/support/ [...] riser.aspx

AOC-SG-i4 - 4 port GbE card / PCI-E 2.0 x4

Either of those 1U riser cards are fine, as long as you have a PCI-E x8 or x16 riser. It's not that complex.

Not sure you understand the question I'm asking. It's not about the riser card. I know the riser card will work. My question is will an NIC PCI card work specifically with the X7SPA and the 502L-200B.

Let me requote the email from SuperMicro:

My question is for someone who has tried a PCI NIC with the X7SPA so that I can confirm the above statement from superMicro. Has anyone who has the X7SPA and 502L-200B been able to find a PCI NIC that works with the mobo and the chassis?

I looked at the wrong specs, see below. The AOC-SG-i4 is a FULL length; so NO it won't fit. Google produced the wrong link.

The chances 'here' of anyone using your MOBO + CASE + NIC is 1/Billion.

AOC-SG-i4 - http://www.mullet.se/dokument/AOC_SG_i4.pdf
The AOC-SG-i4 add-on card offers the following features:
• Dual Intel 82576 LAN chips
• PEX 8518 PCI Bridge chip
• PCI-e x8 interface
• Low-profile, full-length PCI-e x8 standard card

AOC-SG-i2 - http://www.supermicro.com/manuals/other/AOC-SG-I2.pdf
The AOC-SG-i2 add-on card offers the following features:
• Dual Intel 82575EB1 LAN chips
• PCI-e x4 interface
• Low-profile, half-length PCI-e x4 standard card, dimensions (without end brackets)
(HxL): 6.4cm (2.5" ) x 13.2cm (5.2" )

SC502L-200B - http://www.supermicro.com/products [...] 2L-200.cfm
• 1x full-height half-length PCI expansion slot (Optional)
(Riser Card Required)

Would the full length Intel EXPI9404PTBLK PRO1000 PT Quad Port Network Card http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.d [...] 0758262070 work if I replace the dual harddrive bracket with this one: SUPERMICRO MCP-220-00051-0N Single 2.5" Fixed HDD Mounting Bracket
