Lcd dispaly

i have an hp notebook that i am having a display issue with, the desktop is over to the left about 1 1/2 inches, there is a black bar dow left side, i can actually grab a window move it to left and it disappears behind the bar, the bottom streches dow further that i can see,can the screen size on a laptop be adjusted like a desktop lcd

whats model of laptop do you have, i assume there is a setting but we just have to find something elsewhere on the internet that says where that setting is.
