CPU Cooler for Antec 300 Case w/ overclock 920?

Just finished builting my i7 920 in an Antec 300 case. Right now it has the stock intel cooler and running 2.66GHz. Next step is to buy a cooler and overclock it, hopefully somewhere around 4 GHz.

Looks for a CPU cooler that will fit in the case and is quiet. Want something that will not over croud everything in the case, I've seem people have to cut out the fans/ribs of the cooler to allow space for the memory, don't want it anywhere near that tight. Also don't want a lot of noice. I'm okay with air cooled also looked at the Corsair H50, looks clean and small.

Input is appreciated.

Thanks

  1. H50 is great and should serve you well.
  2. h50 will suck at 4 ghz there are 5 coolers i seen who will easily run an i7 at 4 ghz
    prolimatech magahlm/megashadow
    thermalright 1366 extreme/venomousX
    noctua ud14

or go full liquid cooling the h50 is ok for a mild clock but the new coolit systems are better

I know the prolimatech magahlm will not fit in the case, not sure about the others. I've also seem so many heatsinks that you have to cut the fins off the cooler to get it to fit or not enought space for the fans, etc. Looking for something that will not crowd the unit too much, quiet and supply enough cooling.

    Thanks again
  4. How about the ZALMAN 9700, looks like it will fit any feed back on cooling a i7 920 at 4 GHz? Or will the Corsair H50 do as well?
  5. Zalman is not good. I had one and the results were bad. Noisy and no that effective.
Now I have a H50. If you want extra performance, get two fans instead of one (push/pull). More noise, though.
  6. The Zalman 9700 is not a good match for an oveclocked i7 920, especially not the overclock you are hoping for.

I have a Thermalright 120 eXtreme in an Antec 300, and I think the new Thermalright Venemous X is just a tad smaller, so that would probably be the ideal one for you.

However I am not so sure about hitting 4 GHz while at the same time running quiet.

Is there a specific model of Coolit you recommend? They make several version.

    CoolIT Domino A.L.C.
    CoolIT ECO A.L.C.
    CoolIT Vantage A.L.C.

    Thanks again
  8. Anyone have an Antec 300 w/ an OC i7 920 that can recommend a cool? Starting to lower my requirements of 4 GHz since none of the good coolers seem to fit in the Antec 300 case.

    Thanks
  9. i just got a rig oc'd to 4.0ghz, its an i5 760 ( 2.8 stock )

the cpu cooler i got was a akasa venom, reallly good reviews and CFM ratings, very quiet too.
