Hi,
I need help in building my first PC. I am not that good technically with computer hardware so having a very hard time in deciding what parts to choose and if they are compatible. Want to use this system as a gamming pc and also as a workstation for CG rendering. Also need information on what cabinets to use and the cooling system for it.

Thank you
Ankit.

Might want to follow the guidelines from the link in my signature.

Here's what I came up with:

CPU: i7-860 $280
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3 $135
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 2x2 GB 1600 mhz CAS Latency 7 $115
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1 TB $90
Optical: Cheapest SATA DVD burner $25
Case: HAF 922 $90 after rebate
PSU: OCZ Z Series 550W 80+ Silver $80 after rebate
GPU: HD 5870 $395

Total: $1,210. Leaves room for an OS, monitor, keyboard/mouse or SSD if needed.

I'd still go with my build, as the i7-860 performs as well as the i7-920, and the cheaper board and RAM allow you to get a bigger GPU. Which means better gaming performance.

If you want the i7-920, here's a few changes I would definitely make to saint's build.

Mobo: I'd get the Asus P6X58D Premium for another $20. It's more future proof with USB 3/SATA III support.

RAM: Corsiar is really expensive. These are cheaper and faster: Mushkin Enhanced Redline 3x2 GB 1600 mhz CAS Latency 6 for $230 after rebate

Case: I stand by the HAF. It's not only cheaper, but many people consider it to be better. It is ugly though...

^So, this is the configuration that you recomend with a i7-920.

CPU i7-920 $ 288,99
MOBO Asus P6X58D $ 309,99
HDD Spinpoint F3 1TB $ 89,99
GPU 5850 $ 299,99
RAM Mushkin 3x2GB $ 239,99
PSU Antec 550W $ 89,99
CASE HAF 922$ 109,98
CPU COOLER Hyper 212+ $ 29,99

Total: $ 1.488,91
