How to connect old HDD?

Forum Storage : Hard Drives How to connect old HDD?

Hello,

I bought a new PC around 1 1/2 years ago. The old PC was already 7years old and has therefore very old hardware.

I still used the PC for music but eventually the MOBO broke. Now I want to transfer the music and other stuff to my new machine.
My new PC has some kind of HDD slots for internal harddrives but these won't work with the harddrive from my old PC. I would be glad if there is a solution that doesn't require to open the PC because it still has warranty.

Is there something like an adapter I could use to connect my old HDD with my new PC?

I can't really identify the HDD but it says:

Barracuda 7200.7 80GB
Seagate Model: ST380011A

From about $9->$25. any of these will work, recommend picking one with a 5 star rating, 4 is OK, but no lower.

Just install the HDD in encluser (simple) and plug into USB port.

O, and make sure it comes with a Power supply (AC Adaptor commonly called a Brick).

If your drive has a connection like the drive on the left, then you need an IDE internal connection, otherwise, it's SATA.

If it's the size of the drive on the right, it's 3.5", otherwise it's 2.5".

A footnote. Don't use that drive for your music. Once you get it attached, copy your files to the PC's internal drive, and then again to your external backup drive. Then you don't need the old drive any more (except as a backup of last recourse).
