So i wanted to buy an additional hard drive i found a major obstacle in my path. their price. a 500gb hard drive now costs 130$. does anyone know why are they so expensive?

Flooding in various hard drive manufacturing countries have destroyed factories forcing up the hard drive prices.

ooooooh So that's why they're so expensive. Oh well, all i can do is sit and wait until the factories are back up and running again.

Exactly, Thailand ships approx. 25-30% of the Hard Drives in the entire business, and only a couple factories have just started manufacturing again. So it will be a long while. In the meantime, check out the awesome SSD's.

to mention that are only 3 hard drive producers now : Western Digital, Seagate and Toshiba.

In the past were many :

Apple Inc. Computer Memories Inc. Conner Peripherals Control Data Corporation Digital Equipment Corporation ExcelStor Technology Fujitsu Hewlett-Packard Hitachi IBM Iomega JT Storage JVC Kalok Kyocera Maxtor Memorex Micropolis MiniScribe Mitsubishi Electric NEC Plus Development PrairieTek Priam Corporation Quantum Rodime Samsung Electronics Sony Storage Technology Corporation Syquest Texas Instruments

But now they are only three, and they can understand well for prices, I suppose.
Some people like the huge capacities of hard drives, but there is a price to pay.

Well i ain't gonna pay 100$ for a hard drive that should normally cost 40$ I'll either wait for the price to go back to normal or spend the money i was saving on an EVGA GTX 460
