I have a client that has an 16 bay drive array that can be configured any way we want. Each drive is 2TB, not all drives are in use. Lately we have been issues where when it is on the system lockups up when opening My Computer. I have attempted to run check disk on all the used drives, the system locks up before I get half-way through one drive. Would it be useful to remove the drives that are being used one at a time, put them an external enclosure running check disk then putting them back online? Or has anyone encountered this issue.

6 GB ram
