I am not sure whats going on here, Win7 doesn't create a 63 sector offset, Does it??
The computer is a Dell precision workstation T3500.
Xeon 4 core processor. (mid range i7)
X58 + ICH10R chipset.(sataII)
WD v-raptor HDD for C:
Have read that this 63 offset will slow a raid1 or raid0 right down (and would also be incompatable with a SSD for OS/programs if I sometime install an SSD).
I have 2 x 500GB sata2 HDD's for a data storage RAID using the onboard controller ICH10R, the WD C: drive will NOT be in RAID.
I have tryed to set up the 2 disk array with 'disk management' and the 'Intel RST / matrix storage program' and get a 63 sector offset with both, I use minitool partition wizard to check disk details.
Minitool reveals that the first partition on the C: drive is a Dell OEM thing it has a FAT format and a 63 sector offset. Win7 and 7 recovery partitions are NTFS and there starts are devisable by 4096.
Spent lots of time swating up on this stuff, have i missed something or is Dell out to ruin my day. Please Help.
Dom.
