My wife has a Gateway DX4831-01e. The SD card reader has stopped working. When I look at the Device Manager, I see the message ‘device working properly’. Any suggestions on where I should look to fix the issue.

Try uninstalling it in Device Manager. Reboot. Attach the SD card reader with an SD card in it.
