Drive stopped working,show as raw data now says need to format drive,drive was 20G of being full

Does the drive show up in Windows Disk Management? If so, make sure that it has a drive letter assigned. (Right click on the right side of the drive information in disk mgmt and choose a drive letter.)

The drv shows up with letter but says in properties it is raw data needs to be formatted,the drive is close to 5yrs old,I've run recuva on the drive and recovered some of my data,I Think I need a larger drv to recover more, i only had 50Gig free on one of my other drives.
