OEM Software for BD and DVD Burners

Forum Storage : CD/DVD Writers OEM Software for BD and DVD Burners

I just bought

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6827118067

and

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6827106369

They are both OEM and don't come with software or cables. I was wondering if this http://www.cyberlink.com/products/ [...] en_US.html software was worth getting? I've read that no other software works well for the BD burner. Also would that software work well for the regular DVD burner?

A few other questions I have are what is the difference between burning and authoring a disk? It just seems like there is a distinction.

Lastly does it matter what SATA cables I get? Other than the factor of what 3.0 or 6.0 ports are on my mobo, will the cables make a difference in data transfer.

Thanks for the help!

you got the choice for software from nero to roxio or cyberlink and many others, for the cable use the one that will permit 6.0 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] &x=19&y=15

I have personally used Nero for years(but use it less every day since i use hard drives for backups). Cyberlink PowerDVD works very well for me(to watch DVD/BD).

If you want a free player, the latest version of VLC has added basic bluray playback support.

Authoring tools generally let you edit(add effects, cut parts, add menus, ect) a video. Burning software is for burning the data it self. Many include both in one(author then burn).

For those 2 drives, the SATA cable will make no difference. They are not even fast enough to push sata 1.5gigabits/sec. If your board came with cables, use them.

All the parts are still on the way. If I do need to buy cables are the combo data/power cables the way to go?

that comes down to personal preference, I have not used those my self. Always made my own power cables for hard drives(with correct spacing) and used the power supply ones for optical drives.

I have also had very good luck with Lite-on drives.

My only complaint was noise, LG seemed better for that, but it was at the cost of speed(but very quiet when watching CD/DVD's and BD).

Yeah I saw that...right after it was too late to change my order lol. Maybe I will go with the Cyberlink software I linked in my first post, I just wasn't too happy with all the reviews saying there was a lot of bloatware.

Lite-on has worked well for me too, but I haven't ever purchased a BD burner with them.

I use imgburn for all my burning needs.

Damn! That's a find right there! What about video editing? I've used windows movie maker quite a few times for random projects but I would like to make them with slightly more quality.
