I am running Windows XP w/sp3. I have replaced the CD rom and the cable. When I go into the devices the cd rom is not showing up. when I go into the BIOS it is the same thing. It tells me the cd rom is not installed. Is there a problem with the M/B or is it XP?

If the BIOS does not see it, it's not XP.

Did you make sure the master/slave jumper is set right? Cable inserted properly?

Is the drive IDE or SATA?

Have you tried the drive in another computer?
